JAMES BALDWIN -
DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAINTOP
The one-man play, “James Baldwin-Down From The Mountaintop” was written and recently performed by Tony Award nominee Calvin Levels. The play depicts the rich and impassioned life of the esteemed African-American novelist and playwright, James Baldwin. Many of you from the “old school” along with literary buffs recall Baldwin as a writer, known for his novels and sharp essays on racism and the civil rights movement. There is no question that Calvin Levels has captured the "spirit" of Baldwin with his emotionally charged performance. Levels superbly takes the audience through the many levels of Baldwin’s life, from a dark childhood to flighty sexual escapades to his search for “home” outside of America. The play was presented by Staged Dreams and directed by David Moses.
